Let the countdown begin...4 days and counting

In four days, Dive (the 20somethings ministry at the Evanston Vineyard Christian Church) will host its first annual Dive retreat. The name of the retreat is:

Beginnings. Preparing the ground for deeper community.

This should be a blast! I'm really looking forward to it, despite the fact that there is still a lot of work/prep ahead as my co-pastor and I are doing all the speaking.

In other news:
Michigan beat Eastern Michigan quite thoroughly this weekend!!
Michigan State beat Notre Dame...almost lopsidedly until Notre Dame got its act together.
Notre Dame beat Michigan the week prior.
The national polls have Michigan ranked higher than Notre Dame and ND higher than Mich St??
So much for the logic of the polls.

On other fronts:
Here are some pics of Italy

To the right here is the inside of the Coloseum. They could pack 50,000 people in this stadium at one time, comfortably. People had their own seats, with a sign carved out in marble indicating who the seat belonged to. They could empty this stadium in 15 minutes flat.

Some sangiovese grapes (I think). Used to produce the world famous Chianti Classico wines.

To the right is a view of the Cinque Terre at sunset. This is the view we had at dinner. If you look close enough, it almost looks like the trees are on fire.

This is a church in Cortona, sitting just below the Medici Fortress. The bell could be heard for miles in the valley below.

Enough for now.
